Animal Control, Shelters, and 24-Hr Emergency clinics

When searching for your lost pet, be sure to notify and check all area shelters. Even though shelters have specific jurisdictions, finders do not always tell the truth about where a dog was found. Please do not assume that all shelter pets are listed online. It’s important to check in-person every 2-3 days, as most shelters only hold found pets for 72 hours before preparing them for adoption.
If you find a stray dog, you are encouraged to take the dog to the appropriate shelter or call Animal Control (AC). You will need to contact AC or the shelter which handles found pets for the location the dog was found. The shelter is where the owners have the best chance of finding their lost dogs.

24-Hour Emergency Clinics
Most any veterinary clinic can quickly scan a found pet (at no charge) to see if they have a microchip with the owner’s contact information. If you find an injured stray and are able to safely transport, please take the dog directly to the nearest vet for medical care. These emergency clinics work directly with the shelters and do not require the finder to pay for urgent medical care of a found dog. The veterinary office will arrange for the dog to be transferred to the shelter once the are stable, if the owner is not found beforehand. Local 24-hour emergency vets are listed below.
